ANSI/TIA-598-D (2014) recommends a scheme for identifying single fibers, the units that hold them and groups of those units within a cable so that a given fiber can be located for connection, termination or testing, and it also covers identifying the fiber type of indoor and military cable through the jacket color or printed marking. Outdoor cable jackets, which are black for ultraviolet protection, fall outside its coverage.
